Redesign and produce the annual Healthcare in Focus report.

SOLUTION

Healthcare in Focus is an annually released, long-form information report that looks at the performance of the NSW health system on a specific topic each year. The theme for this year’s report was People's use and experiences of mental health care in NSW.

Overseeing a team of designers, we gave a thorough overhaul with an emphasis on adding visual interest and clear space. Adding space allowed the team to keep information easy to read as previous reports viewed as being overly information-dense. By implementing a flexible four-column grid, we were able to maintain the current feel of the document but allow for lighter pages were called for.

We developed a set of icons and infographics specific to mental health in the NSW healthcare system. We developed a colour palette to fit around an existing mental health topic colour allowing each section within the report to have it’s own.

Working with our Data Visualisation team, we worked on updating the design of graphs and figures within the report. This included colours, typefaces, alignment, markers and legends.

We then used the content developed by BHI’s Data, Analyses and Communications teams to produce this report.

RESULTS

The report, its accompanying Technical Supplement, and animated videos have been very well received withing BHI by senior management and stakeholders. The report has had extensive coverage in the media and was used in NSW Parliament during Parliamentary Inquiries.
